Over two dozen crew missing as storm Chaba hits Hong Kong

More than two dozen crew on an engineering vessel with 30 folks on board had been lacking after it snapped in two in waters off Hong Kong as tropical storm Chaba handed by way of, authorities stated.

3 crew users were being rescued, and research and rescue operations were continuing for other people about 300 km (200 miles) southwest of the town, the Hong Kong Federal government Traveling Support said.

Some of the crew experienced deserted the vessel and severe temperature situations ended up hampering rescue initiatives, they said. Chaba skirted the world-wide economical hub, bringing heavy rain and wind, limiting public transport and forcing several firms to close.

The fiscal hub’s weather forecaster lowered the storm warning to signal No 3 on Saturday afternoon as Chaba was set to make landfall in close proximity to Zhanjiang in China’s Guangdong province.

Authorities in Hong Kong lifted the storm warning on Thursday just as Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the town to commemorate the 25th anniversary of its handover from Britain to China.

The Palace Museum, which was established to open on Saturday as component of celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover to Chinese rule, remained shut.
