Businesses reopen after reports of bomb threats in Blacksburg

BLACKSBURG, Va. – UPDATE

Businesses are back open after two separate reports of bomb threats at two hotels in Blacksburg.

Parking lots and businesses off of University City Boulevard were closed for hours after police were alerted of the bomb threats made to the Hyatt and Residence Inn hotels

According to the Blacksburg Police Department, two separate reports of bomb threats at the hotels came in at 10:58 Monday morning.

Once police arrived on the scene, they evacuated all the businesses throughout the area and shut down access to the area.

10 News spoke to one woman from Pearisburg who said she was out getting her nails done when police arrived.

“She said ‘Get in your cars and move them and don’t come back for an hour,’ so that’s it. I said ‘Well I’m getting out I’m not waiting,’ some of them waited around but I’m moving,” Judy Stafford said.

Members of the Christiansburg Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia Tech Police Department, VSP, Montgomery County Emergency Management, ATF, US Marshals, Blacksburg Rescue, and Blacksburg Fire then worked to search both properties.

Authorities said nothing was located and all emergency units cleared the scene.

We’ve reached out to the headquarters of Hyatt and the Residence Inn and as of Monday evening, we’re still waiting to hear back.

All the businesses are now back open.

Blacksburg Police said the investigation is ongoing, and while nothing was located, they encourage community members to remain vigilant.

“If you see something, say something,” BPD said in an update.

A bomb threat has been reported at University City Boulevard and Prices Fork Road, according to the Blacksburg Police Department.
